Ronnie Quest

Our newest Hot Steppa DJ - Ronnie Quest specializes in Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Dancehall, Afrobeat, Afropop, and House.  As a member and producer of the CHN301 band, Ronnie brings a fresh and youthful energy to the Hot Steppa team.

Ronnie Quest is a Jamaican-American DJ, songwriter, producer, and cultural commentator known for blending diasporic sounds with sharp cultural insight. Born and raised in Los Angeles to immigrant parents, he channels his diverse heritage into genre-spanning music and thought-provoking commentary that bridges cultures and communities. With over eight years of experience behind the decks, Ronnie has opened for artists such as YBN Nahmir, 24kGoldn, Brent Faiyaz, Kabwasa, and BashForTheWorld.

He has performed at iconic venues in both Los Angeles and Jamaica, including Soho House, The Peppermint Club, and Dubwise Cafe, as well as at events hosted by Live Nation, AEW Wrestling, the University of Southern California, and the California Democratic Party.

As a musician, Ronnie brings over a decade of experience in songwriting, production, and engineering. His work defies genre boundaries, weaving together rich, immersive soundscapes across styles—from hip hop and Reggae/Dancehall to R&B and electronic.

Beyond performance, Quest is deeply involved in artist development. He began his career under the mentorship of Thomas “DJ Shanxs” Cauley, manager of Grammy-nominated artist D Smoke, as well as interning at APG, before going on to manage notable West Coast artists such as Pure Luxury and Nilla Allin, working in close proximity to YG’s 4Hunnid Records.

Ronnie is also a proud member of the Granny Nanny Cultural Group, dedicated to preserving traditional Jamaican Maroon heritage through music, dance, storytelling, and cultural education. He is one of fewer than 100 people in the world able to play the traditional Maroon Kromanti drum, a sacred instrument central to Maroon ritual and history.

As a cultural commentator, Ronnie began his journey as a music journalist and researcher. He has covered live events in LA, including concerts for acts like Sean Paul, T-Pain, and JID. As a researcher, Ronnie was a Fulbright Grant semi-finalist (2022) for his work on the Caribbean origins of DJ, as well as a guest lecturer at the University of Southern California for his work on the topic. Since then, Ronnie has amassed over 7 million views across social media platforms, with his bold takes on music and the industry earning cosigns from notable artists such as Nate Dogg, Bryson Tiller, and 9th Wonder, as well as leading hip-hop platforms across the internet. Currently, Quest splits time between Jamaica and Los Angeles, working with artists from both sides to create genre bending music that reaches the world.
